Reveal Marketing Research study in partnership with ProBCA: Sustainable solutions shape the present and future of the construction industry
Reveal Market Resources Study No. 160
Bucharest, July 23, 2024. In the context of excessive natural resource consumption, the latest study conducted by Reveal Marketing Research aimed to thoroughly analyze the attitudes and behaviors of construction professionals regarding the importance and level of adoption of sustainable practices in this field.
According to the study results, specialists encourage eco-friendly initiatives in construction, with a relevant example being the use of AAC (autoclaved aerated concrete), ideal for building an eco-friendly, modern, and energy-efficient home.
The principles of sustainability are increasingly defining the present and future of construction industry
The construction industry is rapidly developing due to the increased demand for residential and commercial projects. Construction specialists highlight the growing trend of using modern materials and technologies in construction projects that reduce environmental impact.
This trend in construction has been accelerated by the need to comply with new legislative regulations on sustainable construction, as well as by the rising awareness among the population about the importance of living in eco-friendly and energy-efficient homes.
Last year’s study results confirm the high level of adaptability of the population to new trends, with 7 out of 10 Romanians stating they would trust building a house with the most sustainable construction material.
“In terms of load-bearing structures, construction practices have remained relatively similar over the past 30 years, although more durable materials and advanced technologies have been adopted to accelerate execution times compared to traditional methods. This clearly represents a trend in the evolution of modern construction,” said D. Ciprian, Structural Engineer.
Regarding the main strategies implemented to reduce the environmental impact of construction projects, construction specialists highlight the current focus on efficient waste management and recycling on sites, adopting construction practices that reduce CO2 emissions and energy consumption, as well as using modern materials and technologies that optimize the energy efficiency of buildings.
“In the future of the construction industry, I observe a clear trend towards sustainability and the adoption of more eco-friendly and environmentally friendly materials. I appreciate new market initiatives, such as cement bag packaging that can be directly introduced into the concrete mixer, thereby reducing waste and providing a more practical solution at the same time,” said B. Andra, Architect.
Specialists encourage eco-friendly initiatives in construction, with autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) being recognized as an optimal choice for sustainable buildings
Construction materials play a fundamental role in achieving a sustainable building, and from the study conducted last year we found that, in the view of construction specialists, the energy performance of the building (77%) and the inadequate disposal of construction waste (69%) are the main problems in the construction sector that affect quality of life.
According to experts, autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) stands out for its excellent thermal insulation properties, an essential feature in sustainable construction. Its heat insulation ability helps to reduce energy consumption for heating and cooling in buildings, thereby contributing to significant long-term savings and protecting the environment. Moreover, AAC is recognized for its advantages in terms of lower environmental impact, during the production process it generates lower CO2 emissions compared to other alternatives.
“For sustainable construction, I believe AAC is the most suitable building material, and I’ll explain why. Firstly, its production process has a lower environmental impact compared to brick. Additionally, due to its thermal insulation properties, AAC, when used in appropriate thicknesses, can reduce or even eliminate the need for additional insulation. Its porous structure and the presence of air inside slow down heat transfer, contributing to the building’s energy efficiency. However, it is important to plaster it correctly to maintain its properties,” said D. Lelia, Construction Engineer.
In addition, AAC material is distinguished by its ability to generate less waste on site, it can be processed more easily and accurately to suit the requirements of the project, reducing the amount of lost material. Moreover, it offers extensive recycling possibilities, allowing materials to be recovered and reused in a longer life cycle.
