The results of the study reveal that, in the view of construction professionals, BCA is a perfect example of an essential building material in the context of modernity due to its versatility, energy efficiency and low environmental impact.

In an ever-evolving construction industry, modernity and innovation are becoming essential both for specialists in the field and for Romanians who want sustainable, modern-style, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly homes.
According to construction specialists, with the advancement of technology and the continuous adaptation to the needs of contemporary society, modern buildings integrate a number of essential features that differentiate them and optimize their functionality compared to traditional constructions. Data from last year’s survey conducted by Reveal Marketing Research supports the current perceptions of construction industry professionals, and according to 2023 data, Romanians value modern and innovative solutions for the way they make their lives easier (91%) and give them a sense of security (86%).
“Some of the main benefits of modernity and innovation in construction are low energy consumption and the creation of spaces that feel peaceful and close to nature, which is what everyone is after, at least lately. (…) They are opting for modern design with spaces that are as airy and minimalist as possible, terraces with lots of greenery and the integration of modern technologies such as photovoltaic panels or heat pumps that ensure energy efficiency and thermal comfort.” says D. Specialists also emphasize that the benefits of innovation and modernity in construction are multilateral. For example, advanced materials allow for increased durability and resistance over time, thus reducing maintenance costs and environmental impact. The use of advanced design and construction techniques, such as 3D modeling in the interior design or architecture of a building, contributes to increased functionality and aesthetics of the final results.
So the essential elements of a modern building start with a strong and reliable structure, followed by an aesthetic and functional design, plus technological innovations such as intelligent systems that play a crucial role in ensuring energy efficiency and end-user comfort.

Building materials play a fundamental role in achieving a sustainable and functional building, providing both environmentally friendly solutions that lessen the environmental impact and advanced composites that increase the strength and safety of structures. In 2023, we learn that 78% of Romanians pay more attention to masonry materials when evaluating a home, highlighting the importance of quality and innovation in construction.
According to experts, the BCA (autoclaved aerated concrete) building material is a perfect example of modernity in the industry, due to its advantageous attributes and ability to meet today’s demands in an efficient and sustainable way.
BCA is recognized for its versatility and ease of handling, and is preferred over traditional materials such as brick because of its ability to allow faster and more efficient construction. BCA’s production process also minimizes the environmental impact compared to other building materials, while providing strength and durability over time. According to last year’s survey, 37% of construction professionals prefer to use this material in their projects because of its modern character, while 27% choose it for its environmental benefits.
In addition, the material facilitates modern building design through its ability to be shaped and integrated into complex structures without compromising strength or safety. This is an essential feature for architects or engineers looking to create functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces tailored to today’s needs.
“BCA is a relatively new material, dating back to just after 1900 and first being produced in Sweden. It is increasingly being used in both block and high-rise construction and house building due to its high efficiency and productivity. It ensures high quality, is a lightweight product, weighing about 15-20 kilograms, and is therefore easy to handle. It also allows the realization of varied and complex shapes due to the fact that it can be easily cut and shaped, offering the possibility to create interesting architectures.” A. Consecutive studies conducted by Reveal Marketing Research in recent years confirm the observations of 2024 specialists regarding the significant change in Romanians’ perceptions of the BCA material. So, if in 2016 it was mainly associated with speed of construction and fire resistance, in 2023, the main attributes are modern character (31%), affordability (30%) and popularity of the material (24%).
We can conclude that modernity in construction is not only about aesthetics or functionality, but also about the smart integration of advanced technologies and materials that contribute to the sustainability, efficiency and comfort of buildings in a sustainable and environmentally and community responsible way.
