Reveal Marketing Research study: What is the Romanians’ attitude towards going out in the community?
Context
Given the increasing number of new infections with the new coronavirus, instability, and uncertainty regarding the evolution of the pandemic has significantly changed people’s behaviors, and activities once considered normal, today have become a cause for concern. Therefore, Reveal Marketing Research conducted a study on the attitudes of Romanians towards the events that involve going out in the community and wanted to find out to what extent these outings were influenced by the pandemic.
Romanians from both urban and rural areas put safety first, as 67% of them prefer going out only with relatives, especially outdoors.
Where and with whom do Romanians go out during the state of alert?
Retired seniors were the most worried about participating in community events, with a percentage of 80% and prefer to go out only with their close family, outdoors or in open spaces. To minimize the risk of contracting the virus, spending time exclusively with their closest ones is the safest alternative for retirees. It is understandable why this high percentage in the case of the elderly, because they are in the risk group in case of a SARS Cov-2 infection.
In contrast, out of the total number of respondents, only 14% are indifferent to the location or the people they meet and say that they go out whenever they want. Among those, the segment of the single middle-aged (20%) is the most willing to frequently go out in community, even inside restaurants – areas where the risk of infection is higher.
Equally concerned with the frequented places and the people they interact with we find traditional families, 70% expressing their reluctance to go out with new people or who live outside their home. This segment, like retired seniors, prefers to participate only to family gatherings, in open-air spaces or on outdoor terraces. Young professionals (67%), followed by modern families (62%), responded in relatively similar proportions choosing the same option.
As we look at the younger segments, we see how respondents’ openness is increasing, being confident in widening their social circle. However, young Romanians show a responsible behavior and continue to follow the authorities’ recommendations. More than half of millennials say they prefer to go out with their friends from time to time, but only in open spaces. The percentage of young people who choose, however, frequent outings, without worrying about location or companions, remains low, as only 13% of millennials have this opinion.
Trends
Following the study, we notice a cautious attitude of Romanians in relation to the events that involve going out in the community. Although they continue to participate in them, they do so in a responsible manner while keeping a small circle of people. Under these conditions, they try to limit the spread of the virus and follow the recommendations of the authorities. They spend time with their families, relatives or friends and go outdoors when they want to socialize in order to feel safe.
