Reveal Marketing Research Study: 12% of Romanians say they prefer meatless diets throughout the year. Fasting is practiced by half of the interviewees.
According to the latest Reveal Marketing Research study, 25% of Romanians say they usually fast on Wednesdays and Fridays, while only 1 in 10 Romanians fast the whole period, and 15% follow fast during the last week of the Easter Fast. Active people aged between 25 and 45 are most likely to fast, with over 55% of them falling into the category of fasting, while 47% of over 45s are fasting.
Among the top foods consumed during Fasting are cooked food (81%), salads and fruits (72%), olives (60%) and vegetable pate (43%). The least consumed fasting products are quinoa (10%), tofu (19%) and vegetable milk (23%). 1 in 3 fasting Romanians also consume soy-based foods, seeds or nuts.
12% of Romanians generally prefer meatless diets, and a quarter of these say they are vegetarians.
Among people who prefer meatless diets, the highest percentage of vegetarians is found among young people between 18 and 24 years (27%), who are the most open to new food trends. We find the same trend in the case of people over 55 (30%), an age group to which diets are recommended for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The main reason given by people who prefer meatless products is the positive health effects of this diet (50%). To a lesser extent, we also find arguments such as supporting animal rights, protecting the environment or the fact that they do not like the taste of meat.
A quarter of Romanians consider meatless diets healthier
As people get older, the proportion of those who consider meatless diets to be healthier increases.
Therefore, 19% of young people under 25 say that diets without meat are healthier, and their percentage increases to 30% for people over 45 years.
Although we are in the fasting period, the price increases of meat products were felt by 70% of Romanians
The level of people who consider meat products to be more expensive than last year is increasing in direct proportion to age, so that from 60% for young people between 18 and 24, the percentage increases to 79% for people over 45 years.
